AIPP Chairperson delivered Asia Indigenous Peoples’ statement in the high level opening session of Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the COP23

The chairperson of Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), Mr. Kittisak Rattanakrajangsri spoke on behalf of Asian Indigenous Peoples in the high level opening session of the Indigenous Peoples’ Day on 7 Nov in Bonn Zone in the Twenty Third Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC (COP23). This is the first time in the history of the UNFramework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that indigenous peoples' organisations are allowed to organise Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the Conference of Parties (COP). The other speakers in the high level opening session of the Indigenous Peoples’ Day included; COP22 President, COP23 President and the UNFCCC Secretary. Indigenous Peoples' Rights: Addressing Implementation gaps of the Paris Agreement through the Local Communities Indigenous Peoples Platform

Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), International Working Group on Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA) and Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) co-organized a side event "Indigenous Peoples' Rights: Addressing Implementation gaps of the Paris Agreement through the Local Communities Indigenous Peoples Platform" on 7 November 2017. The local communities and indigenous peoples’ platform was established by decision 1/CP.21 for the exchange of experience and sharing of best practices on mitigation and adaptation in a holistic and integrated manner. Furthermore, the decision recognizes the need to strengthen knowledge, technologies, practices and efforts of local communities and indigenous peoples relating to addressing and responding to climate change. Recommendations of Indigenous Peoples of Nepal on Forest Investment Program (FIP) and Dedicated Grant Mechanism, 2017

Giving serious attention to the discussions/decision at the National Consultation Workshop on Forest Investment Program and Dedicated Grant Mechanism held by Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) and Dedicated Investment Mechanism, on August 28-29, 2017, Recalling and drawing on individual and collective rights related to indigenous peoples as provisioned in different Articles of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)-2007, International Labor Organization Convention No. 169, Convention on Biodiversity, and various decisions taken under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, including the Paris Accord,
